Chessicous is built to collect as little as possible. We don’t show ads and we don’t sell or share your data.
Without a profile
Your progress (XP, streak, finished lessons, puzzle rating) is stored only in your browser’s local storage. Nothing about you is sent to us except the normal request information any website receives.
With a profile
We store your email address, username, a securely hashed password, and your learning progress, so you can use Chessicous on any device. We set one cookie to keep you logged in. Your username and weekly XP appear on the public leaderboard.
Services we use
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database.
- Lichess: your browser contacts Lichess directly for endgame tablebase lookups and when you import a Lichess game.
- Chess.com: when you import a Chess.com game, our server fetches it from Chess.com’s public API.
- An email provider sends password reset emails when you ask for one.
Your choices
You can delete your account at any time from your profile page; this removes your data from our database. For anything else, email hello@chessicous.com.
