Two-player chess board
Play a friend on one device. Pass the phone, or lay a tablet flat between you and play face to face.
How to play a friend on one device
Take turns moving on the same board. Only legal moves are allowed, so nobody can slip a knight sideways, and the game spots checkmate, stalemate, threefold repetition, the 50-move rule and dead positions by itself. Tap a player’s name to change it.
Auto-flip or face to face
Passing a phone back and forth? Turn on auto-flip and the board turns after every move, so the player to move always sits at the bottom. Sitting across a table with a tablet lying flat? Use face-to-face mode instead: White plays from the near side, and Black’s pieces, name and clock are drawn upside down so they read the right way from the far side.
Add a chess clock
Start a new game to pick a time control, from 1-minute bullet to 30-minute classical, or set your own minutes and increment. The clocks start with White’s first move, and you can pause them at any time. If a clock runs out, that player loses, unless the opponent has nothing left that could checkmate. Then it’s a draw.
Keep your game
Your game is saved in this browser, so a refresh or a dropped tab doesn’t lose it. When you’re done, review the game with Stockfish to find the turning points, open it on the analysis board, or copy the PGN to share it. Want an opponent that never gets tired? Play one of our Stockfish bots.
